Description: IDI is a composite Index comprising eleven indicators, covering not only the access (ICT infrastructure), but also the use (intensity) and the skills (for the use of ICT). It results from the weighting of three sub-indexes (Access, Use and Skills), whose weights of the first two (40%) are superior than the third (20%). Each indicator has the same weight within the same sub-index. The IDI resulted from the merging of two previous indexes: The Digital Opportunity Index and the ICT Opportunity Index.
The three sub-indexes and their composition are the following:
ICT Readiness
Fixed-telephone subscriptions per 100 inhabitants
Mobile-cellular telephone subscriptions per 100 inhabitants
International Internet bandwidth per Internet user,
Percentage of households with a computer
Percentage of households with Internet access
ICT Use
Percentage of individuals using the Internet
Fixed broadband subscriptions per 100 inhabitants
Active mobile-broadband subscriptions per 100 inhabitants.
ICT Capability
Mean years of schooling
Gross secondary enrolment
Gross tertiary enrolment
It intends to monitoring, through the time, the development process of ICT and a country’s integration in the information Society.
